ASSESSMENT

The church planting assessment process

The assessment process has been developed to provide an opportunity for in-depth analysis of your skills, abilities, and traits and to match these with the profile of the qualities desirable in church planting. Emphasis is placed on self-assessment, feedback from references, and thorough observation by the Assessment Center staff regarding each participant’s qualifications. Participants often report that the feedback they obtain regarding their gifts and abilities is of great value to them in their ministry.

During the application phase, multiple techniques are used to gather information from and about you, including 360° feedback provided by references utilizing the Church Leader Inventory (CLI) and Church Leader Spouse Inventory (CLSI). The CLI measures your skills, abilities, and attributes against the 10 leadership dimensions and 34 competencies desirable in successful church planting. The CLSI correspondingly measures 6 leadership dimensions and 13 competencies valued in the spouses of church planters/leaders.

Upon invitation, you will attend an intensive 3-day Assessment Center where you are involved in various exercises, activities, and personal interviews with qualified assessors. Fellowship with other candidates and staff through meals, worship times, and classroom interaction are also an integral part of the Assessment Center. Data from all instruments and sources, including assessor observations, is evaluated and compiled, and a Final Assessment Summary (FAS) is generated to provide confidential feedback for each candidate/couple.

Analysis of the Final Assessment Summary will help you:

  • Evaluate yourself with respect to the calling, character, and competencies needed in church planting and church leadership

  • Identify your strengths, as well as areas needing growth or improvement, as a church planter or leader

  • Establish a learning contract focused on development.

  • Discern God’s direction for a future church planting ministry or leadership position
